Geography of Sponsorship: Where are the UK Sponsors Located?

London isn't the only game in town. Discover why regions like the North East and South East are hotspots for licensed employers.

Geography of Sponsorship: Where are the UK Sponsors Located?

While London is a major hub for international sponsorship, the registry data shows a widespread distribution of licensed employers across all UK regions. Understanding this distribution can provide a more complete view of where opportunities exist beyond the capital.

National Coverage

Of the 140,000+ organisations on the register, over 50,000 are located in London. However, this leaves over 90,000 sponsors distributed across other regions. For users of the search tool, these regional entries represent a significant portion of the total dataset.

Regional Data Points

The registry displays high concentrations of sponsors in several other regions. For example:

  • North East & South East: These regions combined represent a significant number of licensed employers, often involved in manufacturing, engineering, and technology.
  • North West & West Midlands: Cities like Manchester and Birmingham are major technical hubs with thousands of individual entries in the register.

Using the Region Filter

The tool allows you to filter the full dataset by Region and Town/City. This technical capability enables you to:

  • Visualize sponsor density in specific areas.
  • Identify employers in regions with a lower volume of overall applicants.
  • Search for sponsors in areas with a different cost-of-living profile.

By using the Region filter, you can access the full breadth of the Home Office data and explore the thousands of sponsors operating outside of the most high-volume locations.
